We’ve rounded up six grants to keep on your radar this September, including opportunities for survivor services, culturally specific programs, children and families, access to justice, and nonprofit capacity building.
Canadian Grant Opportunities
1. Law Foundation of Ontario – Responsive Grants
The Law Foundation of Ontario’s Responsive Grants support projects that improve access to justice in Ontario.
For domestic violence, sexual violence, and victim-service organizations, this funding may be relevant to projects involving legal information, navigation, referrals, advocacy, or helping survivors access legal support.
Funding: Up to $500,000

2. Women’s Economic and Leadership Opportunities Fund
Women and Gender Equality Canada is currently offering funding for projects addressing systemic barriers to women’s economic participation and leadership.
Women’s organizations and Indigenous women’s organizations are among the groups prioritized through this funding opportunity.
While this is not specifically a domestic violence or sexual violence grant, it may be relevant to organizations working on economic security, systemic barriers, leadership, and longer-term opportunities for women.

3. Alberta CIP Organizational Development & Collaboration Grant
Alberta’s Community Initiatives Program supports nonprofits looking to strengthen their organization, improve how services are delivered, or collaborate with other organizations.

4. Culturally Specific Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services
This federal funding opportunity supports organizations providing culturally specific services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Funding can support survivor services, legal advocacy, employment assistance, partnerships, and support related to accessing safe housing.
For culturally specific and community-based survivor organizations, this is one of the most directly relevant opportunities currently available.

5. Specialized Services for Abused Parents and Their Children
This funding opportunity supports organizations serving survivors of domestic violence, family violence, and dating violence, as well as children who have been exposed to violence.
Funding may support counselling, advocacy, referrals, services for children, support for non-abusing parents, transportation, childcare, and other survivor services.
Funding: $300,000–$350,000

6. OVW Consolidated Youth Grant Program
The Office on Violence Against Women’s Consolidated Youth Grant Program supports programs serving children and youth affected by domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, and sex trafficking.
Funding can support prevention, intervention, treatment, and response programs designed for children, youth, and young adults.
Funding: Up to $500,000

What Should Organizations Consider Before Applying?
Before starting an application, take some time to make sure the opportunity aligns with your organization, services, and goals.
Review who is eligible to apply, what expenses can be funded, geographic restrictions, reporting requirements, partnership requirements, and whether the grant is intended for direct services, organizational development, or systemic change.
Organizations may also need to demonstrate why a particular program or service is needed. Looking beyond the services your organization successfully provides can help build that picture.
